Joining the Daytime Atelier was a very good experience. Initially, I wanted to learn how to make jewellery in order to understand how difficult it is to make jewellery. I admire the delicate intricacy of jewellery and how it all fits together to make an aesthetically pleasing creation of a uniquely beautiful work in metal. Melanie is an excellent teacher, explaining things in a very logical and detailed way. She encourages embracing the challenge of what you are working on, gently guiding you as you learn new techniques to understand what you are doing and why you are doing it. The jewellery project I wanted to work on was married metals, knowing that I would find this challenging. What a wonderful sense of satisfaction once I had systematically worked through the stages of this process to finish the marrying of the two metals together, then shaping the piece. Melanie is very knowledgeable, generously passing on her skills and techniques to others.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this class. Mel is a great tutor, with lots of knowledge and is very generous and patient. I was one of the beginner students, and many of the more experienced participants are repeat students (as I will be also) and they were all very friendly and encouraging. Loved being a part of this, and learning some new skills. Only problem is, now I’m hooked!
